Thyroid gland is situated in base of your neck, in front of your throat. Hypothalamus stimulates pituitary gland to produce thyrotropin ( Thyroid-stimulating hormone [TSH]) which makes thyroid gland to produce two hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) which are essential for regulating vital functions and metabolism of the body.
A Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) blood test is carried out to check for issues with thyroid gland.
Normal TSH level : 0.5 - 5
Normal and healthy TSH (Thyroid) level should be in range of 0.5 - 5
If the TSH level is less than the allowed minimum of 0.5 ( low TSH ), it means hyperthyroidism. Ie, an overactive thyroid.
If the TSH level is greater the allowed maximum of 5 ( high TSH ), it means hypothyroidism. Ie, an underactive thyroid.
